Would be curious what will happen with credit union accounts' screen scraping. As you know, the proposed open banking rules in Canada would not cover credit unions, and while most are so small that aggregator don't even bother to create a scrapper to get their data, aggregators like Flinks do scrape data from from the big ones like Desjardins, Vancity and Coast Capital.

We do it for 250+ CU in Canada.

I had no idea you had so many CU on Flinks! It's been a while since I last tested the API! I was asking this question, as Tal's newsletter said that screen scraping would be banned when open banking would be implemented in Canada... But I guess this would only apply for federally regulated institutions, right? So you guys will still be able to screen scrape CU?

Let's ban the Google search engine, the biggest scrapper on earth, right?

On a serious note, our team is on top of all these matters; we can rest assured that we will adjust according to market dynamics.

Also, a point to be made: I haven't heard of any major scraping security incident, as far as I'm concerned, over a 10-year period, and millions of users use that method daily. Je touche du bois.

Yes, in any case, if the API works properly, there will be no reason to screen scrape institutions that properly implemented open banking. And I guess that it will be up to provinces to implement open banking for provincially regulated CUs. And yes, I would not have launched a fintech app that relied on screen scraping if I doubted it could be done in a safe fashion.
